Lucky, lucky Friday the 13th. Well first off, let me say that my favorite number is 13 so of course today was nothing but a good day.

Blah, blah blah.. now to the good stuff. I went with my friend Jasmine to The Strivers Row poetry event. I’ve been talking about going for about weeks now and no one around me could go or had any desire to go but luckily I found Jasmine.

Anyways, on our way there the bus takes the local, scenic route to east bumba and back and it took us about 2 hours to get into New York including traffic. What fun that was. So, we get to NY and I’m in charge of navigating because I mean, who wouldn’t want me to lead the way? 

Long story short, we end up in Brooklyn when the goal was to stay in Manhattan. While on the subway, the car stopped and the lights shut off. See, this has never happened to be so.. in my head I was already planning my escape route and who to kill off. Luckily, it went back up and running and we made our way back to Manhattan.

The venue was packed but it was full of good energy and spirit, so I didn’t mind standing on my feet for 2 and a half hours or being shoved by people. It was honestly worth it. New poets, poems, and relaxing music.. I love it.

Oh and I met Joshua Bennett. He was so genuinely nice, even though it didn’t really surprise me.

MORAL of the story: Do not trust me leading the way for anything because I will get us lost even if I do actually know where to go. Well, not lost but.. to the destination in a longer time.
